Saturday morning crash leaves one dead in Richland County: SCHP investigating

The crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say one person has died following a crash along a major route in Richland County.

Lance Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 4 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Garners Ferry and Butler roads. Pye said a 2005 Saturn sedan was heading west on the road when it ran off the right side and into a ditch. The driver was the sole occupant of the car and died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Richland County Coroner's Office hasn't yet publicly identified the victim. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating what led up to the crash.
