SC Highway Patrol investigating I-20 accident that left 2 dead, 1 injured in Richland County

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is investigating a three-vehicle incident that left two people dead and one person injured during the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 22.

SCHP Master Trooper Gary Miller provided details of the incident. 

Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, three vehicles -- a 2004 Mercedes Benz, a 2009 Honda sedan, and a Dodge sedan -- were traveling along I-20 in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 70. That is near the I-20 and 321/Fairfield Road interchange. At some point in that area, the three vehicles collided, killing the driver of the Mercedes and one of the two people in the Honda. The other person in the Honda was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Dodge was uninjured.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated as details become available. The Richland County Coroner has not yet identified the deceased.
