COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) wants to alert motorists of a traffic pattern change in the Broad River Road area.
Beginning at 11 p.m. on May 17, if weather permits, SCDOT will shift all lanes of traffic along Broad River at I-20 from the existing bridge on Broad River over Interstate 20 onto a newly constructed bridge as part of the Carolina Crossroads Project.
The shift from the existing bridge to the new one will allow for the demolition and reconstruction of the old bridge.
As a result of the lane shifts, there will be a new traffic pattern for drivers exiting I-20 westbound and taking the off-ramp onto Broad River heading into Columbia.
To help direct traffic, message boards, construction signs, and law enforcement will be on-site throughout the shift. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area, expect delays, and plan accordingly.
