RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Weather permitting, South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will be temporarily closing exit ramps on I-26 in order to continue construction along the Midlands Connection Project between Little Mountain and Irmo.
SCDOT proposes nighttime closures of:
- I-26 eastbound exit ramp at Exit 91 (Columbia Avenue/Chapin) 6 p.m.-7 a.m. Tuesday, June 25 and 8 p.m.-7 a.m. Friday, June 29
- I-26 westbound ramps at Broad River Rd/US176 (Peak Exit 97) 8 p.m.-7 a.m. Friday, June 29; 9 p.m.-7 a.m. July 1; and 7 p.m. -7 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 2-3.
Detour signs will direct traffic at both locations.
The Midlands Connection Project's purpose is to improve the 16-mile stretch of interstate between Exit 85 in Little Mountain to Exit 101 in Irmo through lane widening, replacement of overpass bridges and improvements at interchanges.
