Drivers in Blythewood concerned over recurring pothole on Community Road

SCDOT is working on a solution to fix a pothole on a main thoroughfare in Blythewood.

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — A pothole on Community Road in Blythewood is causing drivers to encounter some unwanted bumps in the road.

Terra Lee, one of those drivers who encounters this pothole almost daily, says she is concerned.

“There‘s a lot of construction on Community Road with a lot of potholes," Lee said. "One in particular is really bad. I feel like if you were to drive over it, and your tire were to hit it, your tire would bust, and it could cause an accident, so they really need to repair it."

Lee, however, is not the only person in the area who has complaints. Others have taken to social media to express their concerns about the pothole.

The pothole was patched as of Friday afternoon, which residents say has happened before.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) team said in a statement: “A temporary repair was done on the section of the road today, and it’s scheduled for a permanent repair on Monday.”

Terra says she hopes this repair is the last and that the SCDOT also gives drivers warning signs.

“You don’t notice the cones until you get right up on it, so you still have to swerve, and depending on your speed, that could still be dangerous," Lee said. "I have my fingers crossed that they are going to patch it up or fix the hole because we need that before something major happens.”

Issues with potholes or needed road repairs can be reported to SCDOT by making a maintenance request.
