RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — According to officials, a section of Sunset Drive in Richland County will be closed for weeks beginning Tuesday, May 28.
The section from 600 Sunset Drive to 700 Sunset Drive in Columbia will be closed to through traffic beginning Tuesday, May 28, in order to perform storm drainage, sidewalk, and road construction activities. That portion of Sunset is between Westbury and Summerlea drives in the Earlewood neighborhood, over Smith Branch Creek.
The contractor, Cherokee General Contractor, said the work may take up to a couple of weeks. It will work to expedite the reopening of this road as soon as possible. In the meantime, drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes.
Drivers traveling near the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. Drivers are also asked to notice and comply with traffic control signs, reductions in speed limits, and detour route information.
Cherokee said the road work is dependent on the weather.
