Two killed in Orangeburg County crash as car crosses median on I-26

A five-vehicle crash in Orangeburg County killed two drivers when a Honda CRV crossed the median on I-26, causing a collision with a Chrysler van.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A five-vehicle crash in Orangeburg County ended with two deaths on Saturday morning.

Master Trooper Gary Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 11:20 a.m. on I-26 westbound about six miles outside Bowman. Miller said a Honda CRV was heading east on I-26 near the 156-mile marker, and a Chrysler van, a GMC Denali, an Acura sedan, and a GMC pickup truck towing a trailer were all heading west.

Authorities believe the Honda CRV went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and traveled across the median, striking the Chrysler van. Debris from the crash struck the other three vehicles.

The drivers of the Honda CRV and Chrysler van both died.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
