Crash involving tractor-trailer leaves one dead in Richland County

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — One driver is dead, and another is injured following an early morning interstate crash in Richland County.

Corporal David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 3:15 a.m. on I-77 southbound near the 25-mile marker - roughly a mile from the Wilson Boulevard exit. Jones said a 2024 Toyota four-door vehicle was heading south when it struck the rear of a 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer had minor injuries, but the driver of the Toyota died at the scene.

Corporal Jones said the crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The Richland County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the name of the deceased driver.
