SUMTER, S.C. — If you live in the Privateer community in Sumter, South Carolina, or travel through the area using Bethel Church Road, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) wants you to know of a temporary road closure beginning Monday, Oct. 16.

SCDOT will close the bridge on Bethel Church Road over Bush Branch for maintenance and repairs. There has not been a date announced for the project's completion.

Signage will be in place to alert motorists of the closure -- about a 1.6-mile stretch between Bethel Baptist Church and Furman Middle School -- and to direct drivers along the detour route. During this closure, drivers should follow the signed detour route using Starks Ferry Road (S-251), Cox Road (S-43-531), and Furman Road (S-43-32).

SCDOT asks drivers to use caution in the area during this time.
