Man dies after being ejected from fiery wreck in Sumter County, coroner says

Authorities said the vehicle hit several trees and flipped before catching on fire.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a man who died Thursday morning along a Sumter County roadway.

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on 12 Bridges Road. The coroner's office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 2017 Tesla was heading east when it left the road, struck multiple trees, flipped and caught fire.

Baker said the victim, 34-year-old William Hensley of Sumter, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The crash involved no other cars.

The coroner and South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
