Golf cart driver dies after accident on Sumter County highway

The coroner's office has since identified the victim as 74-year-old Frank Sanders of Sumter, South Carolina.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — The driver of a golf cart has died following a crash in Sumter County on Friday.

According to Master Trooper Brian Lee with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:35 p.m. on S.C. 261 (North Kings Highway) near Racoon Road.

Lee said that a 2010 Lexus was heading north on 261 when it struck the golf cart's rear. The 71 -year-old driver of the Lexus was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. 

However, the driver of the golf cart, later identified by the Sumter County Coroner's Office as 74-year-old Frank Sanders of Sumter, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

At this point, Lee said the crash was still under investigation.
