SUMTER, S.C. — Authorities say one person has died following a two-vehicle crash in Sumter County that happened Friday afternoon.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of St. Paul Church Road and Dorsey Drive.

Based on a preliminary investigation, troopers believe a 2004 Honda Civic 4-door sedan was on Dorsey Drive attempting to turn left onto St. Paul Church Road when it was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The resulting crash sent the Honda driver, identified by the coroner's office as 66-year-old Kathleen Jackson, to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured according to reports from the highway patrol. According to the coroner's office, the family of the victim has since been notified. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston at some time in the future. An exact date wasn't released.

Both the highway patrol and the Sumter County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash.
