SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Troopers say a three-vehicle crash in Sumter County ended with one driver dead on Sunday while also injuring a passenger.
According to Lance Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the crash happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Patriot Parkway and St. Paul Church Road - a location just south of the Cherryvale community.
Pye said that the first vehicle, a 2014 Nissan pickup truck, was traveling on St. Paul's Church Road as a 2013 Cadillac sedan was traveling north on Patriot Parkway. The third vehicle, a 2001 Jeep SUV was stationary and facing south.
Somehow, all three collided at the intersection, leaving the driver of the jeep dead and a passenger with undisclosed injuries had to be hospitalized. The other drivers and one passenger in the sedan were not injured in the crash, Pye said.
The crash is still under investigation by the SCHP and its Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) Unit. Pye deferred to the Sumter County Coroner's Office for additional details, including the name, of the driver who was killed in the crash.
