Teen identified as victim in Aiken County ATV crash; coroner investigating crash

The coroner said the teen victim was riding when he lost control, ran off the right side of the road, and hit a tree.

JACKSON, S.C. — The Aiken County Coroner's Office has released the name of a teen killed in an all-terrain vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon.

Coroner Darryl Ables said the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Bluff Landing Road in Jackson. He said the teen victim, 15-year-old Kurtis Phillips, was riding a Honda ATV when he lost control, ran off the right side of the road, and hit a tree.

Ables said the teen was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where he died. An autopsy is planned for Phillips in Newberry County. Coroner Ables said his office is still investigating the deadly crash.
