Deadly Fairfield County crash involving three vehicles leaves one dead, another hurt

Officials said the crash happened on Saturday morning west of Winnsboro.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say one person is dead, and another was injured in a Saturday morning crash in Fairfield County.

According to Master Trooper Garry Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. on S.C. 34 (Also known as Newberry Road, near Ramsey Road. 

Miller said a 2007 Honda Accord was heading west on S.C. 34 when it sideswiped an eastbound 2023 Chevrolet heavy-duty pickup truck. Investigators said the Honda driver then lost control and was struck by a 2011 Ford Expedition. The Ford then left the road and hit a guard rail.

The Honda Driver died in the crash and was the only person in the vehicle. The driver of the Ford was injured and taken to an area hospital, but the two passengers were not hurt. No one in the Chevrolet was hurt.

The Fairfield County Coroner's Office has been tasked with releasing the name of the deceased victim.
