LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — An incident that caused traffic to be backed up to a standstill for drivers on Interstate 26 Eastbound is now over.
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department said around 10 a.m. that the incident that led to the backup had ended, and alll lanes were reopened.
Traffic had been backed up from mile marker 115 to at least Exit 113, making getting to Cayce and West Columbia difficult. Drivers in the area were asked to seek alternative routes.
The backup affected anyone who was trying to move south, including those in the eastbound lanes trying to get to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport or to the Interstate 26 split with I-77 to go north or toward Charleston.
