LAKE CITY, S.C. — Drivers in the Lake City area are likely to see some slowdowns if their trip includes crossing some sections of rail.
According to the city, a CSX freight train has derailed and is now blocking railroad crossings south of Thomas Street. Authorities haven't said exactly what led to the derailment but a photo shared by the city shows a large amount of unrecognizable debris stretched across the front of the train engine.
Despite this, no injuries were reported and city authorities said only one car appears to have derailed.
There's no estimated time of clearing. This is the second such derailment in the Lake City area in January. The previous freight train derailment caused significant delays for Amtrak passenger trains that travel the same route.
It's unclear how the latest incident will impact the train schedule. Amtrak is reporting that the Carolinian Train 80 is currently an hour late to Petersburg, Virginia due to "freight train interference."
