UPDATE: Power restored in West Columbia, tree cleared from road

On Thursday, Dominion Energy's outage map initially showed between 500 and 600 customers without electricity in the area. Crews restored power around 4 p.m.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Power has been restored and a downed tree has been cleared from a road in West Columbia. 

Drivers in West Columbia on Thursday morning had been urged to use caution as they traveled due to a large tree that fell and is blocking traffic.

West Columbia Police shared a photograph of the tree blocking State Street between B and C Avenues. 

The tree struck powerlines and left a large section of West Columbia without electricity for hours. Dominion Energy outage maps showed roughly 500 to 600 customers without power in the area. Dominion Energy confirmed its crews restored power in the area by 4 p.m.

However, it's still unclear when the road will clear. West Columbia Police said the road was still blocked in the evening. A map provided by the city also shows the intersection remains blocked. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
