Two dead in tractor-trailer crash in Fairfield County

Authorities said the passenger and driver in the truck died after the vehicle left the road, hit a sign, and flipped.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A single-vehicle crash in Fairfield County on Friday left two people dead.

Lance Corporal William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened a quarter mile south of Monticello on Secondary Highway 215, also known as Monticello Road.

Bennett said a 2010 Peterbilt truck was heading south when it left the road to the right, hitting a sign and a ditch before overturning.

First responders pronounced both occupants of the truck dead at the scene of the crash. The Fairfield County Coroner's Office will release the names and other information about the victims after notifying their families.
