Man found unresponsive in Winnsboro, declared dead; hit-and-run investigation underway

Authorities said the victim was a man between 45 and 60 years old.

WINNSBORO, S.C. — The Winnsboro Department of Public Safety is investigating a death that authorities were alerted to on Friday night.

Chief Kevin Lawrence said officers went to the 250 block of South Zion Street around 8:30 p.m., where a man was on the ground and unresponsive. Lawrence said emergency responders arrived first and attempted to help the victim, described as a man between 45 and 60 years old. However, Chief Lawrence said the man died.

Officers, along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, are investigating and believe the death was the result of a hit-and-run crash. Police said the coroner's office will release the victim's name after officials notify his family.
