RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities are still investigating a crash that happened on Garners Ferry Road early Saturday, leaving one dead and sending another driver to the hospital.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, the crash happened around 4 a.m. on Garners Ferry Road near Garners Ferry Way about 20 miles east of Columbia.
Ridgeway said a 2013 Ford sedan driven by a Columbia man was heading east in the westbound lanes when it struck another sedan heading west.
The driver of the westbound sedan, described as a 23-year-old Goldsboro, North Carolina resident, died at the scene. The eastbound driver was also injured and taken to Prisma Richland Hospital for treatment. No additional information was available regarding his injuries.
Authorities haven't said what led up to the wrong-way crash but Ridgeway said the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is in charge of investigating the crash.
