COLUMBIA, S.C. — Christmas may be more strongly associated with the Big Guy at the North Pole, but Condé Nast Traveler suggests some of the best places to get into the Christmas spirit are to the south -- or, in the case of Midlands residents, the east.
Two South Carolina cities made the travel website's list of places to go "all out" for Christmas.
The first Palmetto State attraction on the site happens to be a regular on top destination lists. The author suggests Charleston has plenty of Christmas events without those cold winter temperatures. From the Festival of Trees in Charleston to the Holiday Festival of Lights on James Island, Condé Nast said the city has plenty to offer holiday revelers along with its year-round tourist attractions.
For those wanting to make more than a day trip out of the experience, the list includes places like the French Quarter Inn, The Vendue, and Hotel Bennett.
It may also come as a surprise that South Carolina gets a second nod on a relatively short list of Christmas holiday destinations.
Myrtle Beach is listed as a place to be for southbound travelers looking to ring in the holidays. The town rounds out the list but likely grabbed some extra attention due to the two-million light Great Christmas Light Show. Visitors can also enjoy the MarshWalk Santa Crawl or watch the Yuletide golf cart parade. Additionally, the beach town stands out for offering sensory-friendly Christmas activities.
Condé Nast suggests visitors to The Island Vista Resort as a great place to stay while taking in the holiday cheer.
