CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Douglas International Airport has unveiled its newest renovation project. There are now 10 new gates inside Concourse A.
Delta Airlines will use seven of the new gates and Frontier Airlines is using two of the new gates. Airport officials said the other gate will be a common gate to be used, as needed, by other airlines at the airport.
The expansion is part of Destination CLT, a plan to improve airport operations and overall passenger experience. There are four new eateries in the concourse as well as artwork with airport and or aviation themes.
Charlotte Douglas spent $241 million on phase two of the expansion project, which was delayed a couple of years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Construction for the 200,000-square-foot addition began in May 2022. The area where the old car rental site stood was torn down in 2016 to make way for the expansion project.
The $200 million expansion for Concourse A added nine gates in the summer of 2018 after a couple of years of construction.
Charlotte Douglas now has a total of 124 gates, and plans are to add more gates over the next several years.
