Deadly plane crash reported in North Myrtle Beach: Here's what we know so far

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — At least one person died in a plane crash that occurred Sunday morning in North Myrtle Beach.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said crews were alerted to the crash around 11 a.m. in the area of Grey Heron Drive in the Barefoot Resort area.

Crews found a small plane, identified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Piper PA-32, down and burning in the woods near the roadway. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, the department said.

The FAA said the crash happened northwest of Grand Strand Airport and that four people were aboard.

The Horry County Coroner's Office confirmed the crash was deadly but didn't specify the number of deceased people.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will investigate the crash. North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said it would also be coordinating with the Myrle Beach Airport fire chief.
