Springdale, SC (WLTX) — The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced that an overpass in Lexington County has reopened following a construction project.
SCDOT announced on social media that the bridge for Rainbow Drive over Interstate 26 near Springdale reopened Wednesday afternoon.
SCDOT closed the area in 2016, saying the bridge had a "structurally deficient condition." The bridge was originally scheduled to be reopened in April 2018, but transportation officials said in March 2018 that the reopening would be delayed until October due to an "unforeseen utility delay and the necessary reallocation of resources toward an emergency bridge repair."
Rainbow Drive connects with Wilton Road, which has a bridge that has been closed since the flood in October 2015. The closed bridge is on a private dam.
