SALUDA, S.C. — A plane crashed Sunday morning just feet away from golfers at Persimmon Hill Golf Club, sending two people to the hospital.
"It's too close to home. First of all, and you can see where we are here, we're only like drivers and three wood away from that, so yeah, too close to home," says Bill Eberz, who lives feet away from the plane crash site.
The plane crashed right behind their home around 10:30 am.
"My wife heard the plane go down. She heard the plane go over, she was working in her garden here and heard the plane go over, the engine stop, and then a bang. She thought it was a tree going down, but it was the plane crash," Eberz recounted.
He described arriving at the scene to see golfers assisting the two passengers out of the plane as debris fell from the trees and gasoline leaked from the aircraft.
"When I got there and saw that plane, that was frightening," he said. Adding, "I don't see how anybody got out of there alive,".
According to the FAA report, a single-engine Van's RV-9 crashed on the Persimmon Hill Golf Course around 10:30 a.m. on June 30, citing engine issues.
Two people were onboard the plane. The latest update from the Saluda County Sheriff early this afternoon states that one passenger is stable, while the other is in critical condition in the ICU.
