COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Midlands got a steady rain all day Thursday, and that may lead to a few hazards through Friday morning as freezing temperatures could lead to slick roads.

An approaching cold front brought rain to the Southeast almost all of Thursday. Some of that rain briefly transitioned to some sleet and a few snowflakes in the northern Midlands. That was a much different story that places further north, especially Charlotte and deeper into the state of North Carolina.

As of right now, however, there are no winter weather advisories or any other watch or warning for our area.

As the forecast computer model showed for days, there was a chance for snowflakes in the Midlands, but there was never any serious threat of accumulation, and that forecast held true.

Temperatures will quickly drop near or below freezing on Friday morning. Any rain left over will freeze over. Black ice is possible early on Friday morning before sunshine returns during the afternoon. Highs will only be in the 40s.

With the threat of black ice, crews were out treating bridges and overpasses that could potentially freeze over.

In response to that threat, several school districts decided to delay classes by two hours on Friday morning.
