A warm, mostly sunny start to the holiday workweek

Thanksgiving Day will bring the week’s most active weather as a strong cold front sweeps through the state. Showers are expected. Some storms are possible.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Temperatures across the Southeast are warming up today, climbing above average. However, changes are on the way. A weak cold front is expected on Tuesday, bringing scattered light showers to the Midlands early in the day.

Later in the week, a stronger cold front will arrive Thursday into Thursday night, accompanied by more widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms. By the weekend, temperatures will dip below normal as the season’s coldest air mass moves in.

We expect plenty of sunshine today and warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the low 70s. Tonight, clouds will gradually increase ahead of an approaching cold front, but any rain is likely to hold off until the early morning hours.

Tuesday will start warm, with highs again in the low to mid-70s, ahead of a weak cold front moving through the area. Scattered light showers are expected, especially in the morning, but rainfall amounts will be minimal. By evening, temperatures will begin to cool slightly as the front moves eastward.

Wednesday will feature a mix of clouds and sun, with highs ranging from the low 60s in the north to the low 70s in the south. Winds will pick up as moisture builds ahead of a stronger cold front. Rain is unlikely during the day but will become more probable overnight, leading into Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Day will bring the week’s most active weather as a strong cold front sweeps through the area. Expect widespread showers, isolated thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with some storms possibly becoming severe. Winds could gust over 25 mph, and temperatures will remain mild through the day.

After the front passes, much colder air will settle in. By the weekend, temperatures will drop significantly, marking the season’s coldest conditions so far. Bundle up if you have outdoor plans, as this chilly air mass is likely to linger.

Enjoy the mild start to the week, but keep an eye on the forecast for Thanksgiving as active weather moves in. By the weekend, it will be time to break out the heavier jackets as winter makes its presence known.
