SC school districts announce closings, delays due to Elsa

Summer school programs, camps and other activities on various school campuses will see delays or cancellations on Thursday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tropical Storm Elsa is causing several school districts in the Midlands to change some of their schedules, as high winds and rains may effect travel in the early morning Thursday. Some school districts are delaying summer classes on Thursday while others are canceling classes outright for the day.

This is a list of what various school districts are doing so far:

Calhoun County Public Schools: Schools will be closed on Thursday and will reopen July 12 at 8 a.m.

Clarendon District 4: The office and all schools will be closed on Thursday. Wednesday dismissal will continue as usual. 240-day district employees will work remotely.

Fairfield County School District: The school district will operate on a one-hour delay on Thursday for all students and staff.

Lexington County School District 2:  Lexington Two’s onsite summer school classes and summer camps will operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday, July 8,  due to possible strong winds and severe weather in the early morning hours.

Students in summer programs should report to their district sites two hours later than the normally scheduled time. If your child rides a bus to a Lexington Two summer program, the bus will pick up your child two hours later

Lexington Richland District 5: All summer school and onsite summer camps will operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday.

Orangeburg County School District: Thursday morning's "Summer Extravaganza" schedule will operate on a one-hour delay and dismiss at the normal time.
