COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tropical Depression Debby has finally moved out of our area. The weather will improve compared to the last several days. It will be hot and humid. Highs will return to the lower 90s, and there will be a small chance of a few showers and storms.
We've been dealing with Debby's impact for nearly a week, with heavy rainfall soaking the region. Thankfully, the worst seems to be behind us as the rain starts to lighten up. The heaviest rain is moving north as Debby speeds away.
As Debby continues to move north, drier air will start to move in, clearing the skies by Friday afternoon. However, there is still a chance for some showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon due to lingering moisture. The threat of severe weather is low, but there is a small possibility of isolated severe storms. Highs will reach the low to mid-90s. Heat index values will return to the triple digits.
Looking ahead to the weekend, expect a return to more familiar summer weather with plenty of sunshine, heat, and humidity. Highs on Saturday will be in the low to mid-90s, pushing heat index values above 100 degrees, so staying cool will be important.
Sunday into next week will be slightly cooler, with highs in the mid to upper 80s as a cold front moves in. This will also bring lower heat index values below 100. The front might cause some scattered showers each afternoon, especially closer to the coast.
With the ground still saturated from Debby's rain, we will need to keep an eye on potential flooding, especially along rivers. Overall, temperatures through next week will be near or slightly below normal.
