What does an El Niño winter mean for South Carolina?

For the first time in four years, El Niño is in place as we head towards winter.

El Niño usually brings warmer temperatures to the northeast and cooler temperatures to the southeast. South Carolina's weather forecast has equal chances of being below normal, near normal, or above average this season, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

In addition to above-average precipitation, wildfire risk is lower, but flooding risk is elevated, leading to increased storm activity.
