COLUMBIA, S.C. — The State Fair draws in people from all over the region. Weather plays a big role in this large outdoor event. Our Average high this time of the year begins to fall below 80 degrees as cooler weather begins to really settle in.

We’ve established in the past that our climate has changed what we can expect and the same can be said for this time of the year.

Since 1980 our daily average temperatures in the middle of October have warmed by a large margin from around 62 to 67 degrees.

Our afternoon highs have followed this trend with temperatures rising by over 3 degrees.

When looking at rainfall during this time of the year, we are typically very dry and this has not changed. Outside of tropical events, rain is typically not a huge issue for the fair.

This year’s fair looks to kick off on Wednesday and overall, the weather is looking climatologically normal.  With mid-70s in the afternoon and some increasing cloud cover the State Fair should start off in a great way!
