COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina will continue high temperatures much lower than the average of 88 degrees. Thanks to more cloud coverage throughout the day, warm-up will be slow for the start of Friday. By Friday afternoon, most of the high temperatures in the state will reach the low 80s. There is also a slight chance for some showers, to start in the western Midlands, to the Central Savannah River Area, and likely in the Lowcountry inland and coastal communities. Rainfall chances may continue for some late Friday evening, then a slight increase for the overnight hours and into the early part of Saturday.

An area of low pressure off the coast of Georgia will slowly move north towards the coastal Lowcountry through the day. It works its way along the South Carolina coastline heading to the North Carolina Outer Banks by late Friday evening. While the chances for rainfall is minimal in the Upstate and PeeDee, there is a slightly higher chance for the Midlands and Grand Strand. The greatest chance for rainfall today will be from the Lowcountry into and especially the Central Savannah River Area.

We've got high school football on the Friday Night Blitz later tonight and the gridiron might get a little muddy. Throughout the Midlands, there's a low end chance for rainfall but bring the rain ponchos. The rainfall chances late Friday night will increase as the football games conclude, although not every football field will get a chance to get a little bit muddy. The greatest chance will be well after the games, in the early Saturday morning hours.
