COLUMBIA, S.C. — The end of the weekend is here and it looks like the good weather will continue here in the Midlands. Much warmer weather arrives as we go into next week before a cooldown entering next weekend.

High pressure remains our dominant weather feature for Sunday. This means we are expecting another dry and sunny day here in the Midlands. A wind out of the north and east will keep humidity low as highs look to climb into the middle to upper 80s this afternoon; just a little bit warmer than what we saw on Saturday. Overnight lows are expected to be in the upper 60s going into Monday.

Looking at this upcoming week, the heat will be the big story that we are following. A ridge of high pressure will be building across the southern US this week allowing for abnormally hot weather for this time of the year. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s Tuesday and into Wednesday. Thursday which happens to be the first official day of Fall looks to be quite hot with highs in the middle to upper 90s.

Thursday and into Friday a cold front will be moving in from the Northwest, this will cool us down quite a bit with highs in the lower to middle 80s heading into next week. This will also keep any tropical weather out at sea. Tropical Storm Fiona is expected to reach hurricane status as soon as today but it will likely remain out at sea thanks to the approaching cold front.
