How a record-breaking high has kept tropical weather away from the East Coast

High pressure has been bringing record-breaking heat but has kept tropical weather away from the East Coast.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Over the past few days, we have talked about tropical weather but with no impacts on the East Coast.

A big reason for this has been our upper-level pattern which is known as the Ring of Fire.

High Pressure has been centered over the Central and Eastern US. This has allowed temperatures to soar and has kept things very dry under this heat as shown in the 3-day rainfall forecast.

There is rain and even tropical systems traveling around this high which gives this pattern the name “ring of fire”. Storms travel around this feature which can be seen this week.

As for the tropics, these large highs redirect the storms around them as we saw with Tropical Storm Harold.

This pattern looks to stay in place through the end of the week before cooler conditions move in.

The Climate Prediction Center pulls most of this heat to the west as highs in the 80s will be likely starting Monday of next week.
