COLUMBIA, S.C. — Whether it is on the road or in the air millions will be traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. Weather can play a very big role in how smooth the trip may be and it looks like this year we could be dealing with a system moving across the US right around the holiday.
There are two types of weather that can cause big issues this time of the year are heavy rain and wintry weather. Both can delay and cancel flights as well as make for hazardous road conditions.
When it comes to weather in November there are two types of low pressure systems we look for along the East Coast that could cause issues.
The first is a typical track that is further north but can cause plenty of issues in heavily populated areas including the Great Lakes and North East. This can bring heavy rain and potentially wintry weather to major transit areas.
During El Nino Years we always have to watch out for coastal lows that can bring a lot of precipitation to portions of the Southeast.
Looking at the week ahead models are favoring a more traditional low moving through the US leading up to Thanksgiving. This will probably translate to some messy conditions for those looking to travel in the region.
Here in the Midlands by Thanksgiving Day temperatures look to fall with a cold day for those in the Palmetto State.
