BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — Tonight a family in Bishopville is picking up the pieces after their home was destroyed during last nights storm.

James Lewis, describes what it was like to come back to his neighborhood on Sunday night only to find that the place he called home had been ripped to pieces.

"Just in shock and disbelief" says Lewis. He goes on to say, "You work really hard for your stuff and then God has a better plan."

Lewis goes on to discuss the pain and hurt that comes with losing this house. He mentions that the reason his family moved to their current location was as a result of the flood of 2015 and now for another disaster has taken its toll.

Lewis says he's just grateful that everyone is safe.

Right before the storm hit, Lewis and his family had left to get food. Lewis says that due to a long line in the drive through of KFC, they missed the tornado.

Lewis says that what gives him hope is the compassion he has received from his community. "There's good people out here and my neighbors are a testament to that. Us South Carolinians come together when it's time and we pull through and we get the job done" say Lewis
