Mainly cloudy, some rain is possible today; drier weekend conditions

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Once again, the sky will be covered in thick clouds today, and isolated rain showers are expected to persist throughout the day, extending into Friday night. Over the weekend, a cold front will move through, ushering in drier conditions. Next week, temperatures will drop considerably below the usual range as this cold front takes hold.

Some light rain or drizzle is possible today. The clouds will keep temperatures below normal as highs top out in the lower 70s. The chance for rain will increase this evening and tonight. Scattered showers are expected overnight. Rainfall amounts through Saturday morning will not be very high, though. 

Temperatures will start off in the upper 50s to lower 60s on Saturday. The rain should move out of the Midlands by the mid- to late-morning hours. The clouds will decrease throughout the day. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. It will be breezy at times. Winds will be out of the west at 10–15 mph, with some stronger gusts.

Cooler, drier air will spill into the area Saturday evening. Sunday will be mainly sunny and cool. High temperatures are forecast to hit the upper 60s and lower 70s. A few more clouds are possible late in the day on Sunday through Monday.

To start the workweek, it will be cool. Highs are expected to only reach the middle 60s. Lows Tuesday morning will fall into the middle 40s. The dry, cool weather will persist through the workweek. Gradually, temperatures will warm into the lower 70s on Wednesday and Thursday.
