COLUMBIA, S.C. — Seasonable temperatures and dry conditions will continue today. The region is bracing for a cold front that will arrive late Tuesday and into early Wednesday. This front will bring a slight chance of showers, with gusty winds ranging between 30 and 40 mph expected on Wednesday and Thursday. Behind the front, cold and dry weather will settle in, bringing below-average temperatures through the weekend.
The weather will remain dry today with warm temperatures, with highs reaching in the lower to middle 70s. Look for a mix of sun and clouds, with dry conditions supported by high pressure and low moisture in the atmosphere.
Overnight temperatures will dip into the middle to upper 40s, with clear skies and light winds promoting radiational cooling.
As we look toward Tuesday and Wednesday, a strong cold front will move into the region, triggering gusty winds and a small chance for rain. While moisture from a nearby low-pressure system will bring some precipitation to southern areas, the heaviest rain will remain south of the region.
The primary impact will be strong winds, with gusts between 30-40 mph expected late Wednesday and into Thursday. Following the front's passage, colder and drier air will take hold, leading to below-average temperatures and low dew points by the end of the week.
High temperatures Thursday and Friday will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
With cold, high pressure in place, a much cooler and drier weekend is expected, with temperatures 5-10 degrees below average and overnight lows 10-15 degrees below normal.
