COLUMBIA, S.C. — As the Midlands' heat indexes go back into the triple digits, an above-normal temperature trend is expected for the upcoming fall season.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, the forecast suggests above-normal temperatures for many regions of the country. The seasonal temperature outlook covers the months of September through November.
Almost all of the country could be impacted, from the Northeast to the Southeast to the Southwest, West, and Alaska.
The Upper Plains and a portion of the Midwest are among the areas that could avoid a warmer fall.
South Carolina is also among a smaller region forecasted to see above-average precipitation.
However, below-normal precipitation is forecasted for the Pacific Northwest, the western Great Lakes region, and a small portion of the Southwest.
NOAA emphasizes that this is a forecast, not a certainty, and that local variations will occur.
