COLUMBIA, S.C. — For the rest of the week, atmospheric moisture levels above normal will allow for sporadic showers and possibly thunderstorms through Saturday. During this time, temperatures will be significantly higher than usual. Next week, though, is expected to bring with it cooler and drier weather.
This morning started off foggy and overcast. Low temperatures only dropped to the middle 60s for most of the Midlands. The record warmest low temperature for today in Columbia is 61°, set in 1931. That record could be in jeopardy today.
Overcast skies will continue to drape across the state. Some rain is possible this afternoon and this evening, especially in the western and northern half of the Midlands. Temperatures will be unseasonably warm. Highs are expected to top out in the middle 70s. The record high temperature for today is 81 degrees. Lows tonight will again be in the lower to middle 60s.
In the early hours of Friday morning, we may see dense, patchy fog. Through the day on Friday, there is a chance for more rain. Although there may be a few thunderstorms, severe weather is not anticipated. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 70s.
The rain chances appear to be the highest on Saturday. Scattered showers and storms are expected for the start of the weekend, but the threat of severe weather is low. Some heavy downpours will be possible. We may receive between 0.50” and 1.25” of rain on Saturday. Highs will be in the lower to middle 70s.
Rain will continue through the very early morning hours of Sunday, but by the afternoon, things will start to dry up. Highs will be in the middle 60s. For the start of the workweek, it will be mainly sunny, dry, and cooler.
