COLUMBIA, S.C. — High pressure will continue to dominate our weather this week. Gradually, the moisture will increase towards the weekend, and temperatures will be climbing too.
For most of the week, high pressure will control the weather pattern, ensuring mostly dry conditions with temperatures that are close to seasonally normal. The skies will be primarily sunny with a gentle breeze, thanks to the high pressure centered to our northeast.
Daytime temperatures will be hot, ranging from the upper 80s to the lower 90s. During the night, temperatures will remain mild, with lows dipping to the upper 60s to around 70 degrees, providing some relief from the daytime heating.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, an onshore flow from the Atlantic will bring slightly cooler temperatures, with highs ranging from the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. Despite the onshore breeze, deep moisture will be lacking, leading to mostly dry conditions.
On Thursday and Friday, the high-pressure system will begin to shift southward. There is a potential for an upper trough to develop offshore, which could bring increased moisture and a chance of unsettled weather by Friday and Saturday.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring this situation and has noted a 30% chance of tropical development. This could lead to more clouds and a few scattered showers or thunderstorms.
Heading into the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise significantly. By Saturday and Sunday, well-above-normal temperatures are expected, with a possibility of reaching the upper 90s by Sunday.
Increased moisture and higher temperatures will create the potential for unsettled weather and significant heat over the weekend.
