Rain returns Friday after dry weather today

Showers will continue early Saturday morning. Some rain will be possible on Saturday afternoon too.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Today's forecast promises pleasant weather, with temperatures slightly above normal. Expect rain to make a comeback in South Carolina on Friday, and temperatures will slightly decrease as well.

Keep your umbrellas handy, especially if you are in the southern and eastern regions of the state, as showers are expected primarily in these areas on Saturday. Sunday, on the other hand, will offer clear skies and cooler temperatures.

Monday is expected to be partly cloudy and mild, providing a brief break from the rain. However, don't stash away those umbrellas just yet, as there's a chance of showers making a comeback on Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly lingering into Thursday.

Expect temperatures to reach the lower to middle 70s by Wednesday afternoon under sunny conditions. Today's temperatures will follow suit, with mostly sunny skies prevailing. As night falls, a slight increase in cloud cover is anticipated as the next weather system develops to the west. Low temperatures are forecast to range from the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

Keep an eye out for smoke and haze today, as prescribed burning continues in parts of South Carolina. While wildfires are a constant concern in the Southeast, they tend to peak during the spring months due to the ignition of accumulated dry vegetation.

Rain is expected to arrive on Friday afternoon and persist through the early hours of Saturday morning. Be prepared for potentially heavy downpours, particularly in the Midlands, where our in-house forecast model predicts rainfall between 1 and 2 inches. Some areas may receive even more precipitation by Saturday afternoon.

Friday's temperatures will dip, with highs in the lower 60s. The northern half of the Midlands may experience even cooler conditions as a wedge sets up across parts of the Carolinas. Saturday's temperatures are forecast to range from the middle to upper 60s.

Sunday brings improved weather conditions, with temperatures settling in the middle 60s. Monday is expected to remain dry, but keep an eye on the forecast as the chance for rain returns on Tuesday.
