SCEMD tracks tornado and storm coverage

Damages after the storm can be reported to your local emergency services and the SCEMD app.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Today South Carolina Emergency Management Division is actively monitoring the inclement weather throughout the state.

Kim Stetson is the director of the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and stresses the importance of staying inside during the storm.

“If you don’t have to go out today, especially this afternoon, stay at home," said Stetson. "Stay off the roads and stay safe.”

Even after the storms have passed there are things you can do any time there’s wet weather in the area. Stetson said it is important to avoid traveling in water as it can lead to drowning.

“Don’t drive in the water, turn around don’t drown," said Stetson. "That’s very very critical. And as little as six inches of water can impact vehicles ability to actually traverse that particular area.”

Stetson says that damages after the storm can be reported to your local emergency services and the SCEMD app.

“If they have damages a couple ways you can do that," said Stetson. "One is you can report that to their county emergency management in each county, and then also on our South Carolina emergency manger app there’s actually a damage assessment module in there and you can report that directly to us.”
