COLUMBIA, S.C. — After hitting a high temperature of 84 today in Columbia, we continue to see the warm weather sticking around in the forecast for the next few days. Shower chances will also be isolated and scattered in nature with rain already moving through the Midlands Saturday evening and lasting into the overnight. We will need to watch the tropics when it comes to our late week weather and rain chances going forward.
Before getting into things, don't forget tonight we set clocks back an hour which will lead to an earlier sunset around 5:26 PM tomorrow.
A stalling cold front is bringing rain to the Midlands tonight with more rain on the way as we go into Sunday. Temperatures look to be in the lower 80s once again with shower chances mainly in the morning and evening hours.
Going into Monday, we do see sunshine return to the forecast but the warmer weather sticks around for one more day with highs in the 80s. Temperatures look to be somewhat cooler as we go into the middle of the week with good weather expected across the area for Election Day.
Things should be quiet through Wednesday but then all eyes will be on the tropics. Currently, the National Hurricane Center is expecting a high chance of development with 2 areas of low pressure in the Atlantic. The one we will be focusing on is the broad low to the south in the Caribbean.
Models have been watching this low for a while and have continued to keep this system somewhat weaker. It will continue to move west and develop into a tropical system by Wednesday or Thursday of next week. As of right now, we are at least expecting an increase in rainfall across the region but other than that, we will need to wait and see.
