FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Just three days after a small earthquake rattled part of Fairfield County, three slightly smaller ones have been reported as of Thursday morning.
The latest earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), happened roughly 5.6 miles north of Jenkinsville around 6:30 a.m. and registered as a magnitude 1.7.
Just two minutes earlier, a magnitude 1.8 was recorded roughly half a mile to the west. And, on Tuesday, another magnitude 1.8 earthquake was reported about 3.5 miles southeast of the most recent two.
They all follow a magnitude 2.2 earthquake that rattled the ground about a mile southwest of the most recent two just off the coast of Lake Monticello.
All four quakes fell below what would typically be felt by people. However, the Monday quake had 14 people respond, with the majority of them reporting that they felt it, albeit weakly.
