Some South Carolina schools moving to e-learning for Nicole

District announces e-learning day ahead of inclement weather

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Wind and rain associated with Tropical Storm Nicole -- some of it heavy at times -- will be moving through South Carolina beginning Thursday through Friday afternoon.

In anticipation of possible severe weather, some school districts in the state have decided to go to an e-learning day on Friday out of the abundance of caution for the safety of students, teachers and staff.

Calhoun County Public Schools will have an e-learning day for all students, according to Superintendent Dr. Ferlondo Tullock. Faculty and staff will work from home.

Clarendon County School District will operate on an e-Learning schedule Friday, November 11th. Students and staff should adhere to the CCSD e-Learning expectations. 

Fairfield County Schools: will have an E-Learning Day for Friday, November 11th

Kershaw County School District: All Kershaw County School District schools will shift to e-learning on Friday, Nov. 11, as potentially severe weather is predicted in our area because of Tropical Storm Nicole. All school buildings and offices will be closed. Teachers will post assignments in Canvas (or provide paper packets). Specific instructions will be communicated to students and parents from teachers and schools. Teachers will be working remotely on Friday, and will be available for student questions during their virtual office hours:

  • Elementary Schools: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Middle and High Schools: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

We realize that power outages are possible, so students will have five school days to complete all assignments to be counted present.

Laurence Manning Academy in Clarendon County will go to e-learning on Friday.

Lee County Public Schools - All after school activities, athletics events, and field trips are canceled for Thursday. Friday, November 11, 2022 will be an eLearning day for all students in Lee County School District. This means schools and office buildings will be closed, and all activities, including athletic events and field trips, are canceled.

Lexington One: will shift to e-learning on Friday, Nov. 11.  That means the school buildings and offices will close Friday, with teachers assigning both virtual instruction and/or take-home lessons. Students should check their learning management system and/or district email for assignments and directions from your teacher(s). Complete assignments as instructed. Families may also want to check their email in case your student’s teacher emails you with directions.

Students will have five school days to complete all assignments to be counted present.

Lexington Two: Will move to an eLearning day on Friday. All after-school activities, programs and athletic events that were scheduled for Friday are canceled or will be rescheduled. Thursday afternoon’s after-school programs and activities will continue as scheduled. Thursday evening activities will be canceled or rescheduled; your school will share those details.

Lexington Three: The district is moving to an e-learning day for Friday, November 11. 

Assignments will be shared with students via Google Classroom in grades 1st through 12th and students will bring devices home on Thursday, November 10th.

Lexington Four: in coordination with other Lexington County school districts, will transition to an e-Learning day for all schools, Friday, November 11. Additional information will be sent home from your school and your child’s teacher(s) regarding e-Learning instruction. Keep an eye out for these communications. Your child will need to complete their e-Learning assignments to be considered present for attendance on Friday. All afterschool activities and athletics are canceled for Friday.

Lexington-Richland Five: will transition to an eLearning day on Friday, November 11, 2022. Teachers will post assignments to Google Classroom or Seesaw accounts by 10:00am Friday morning for asynchronous learning. Asynchronous learning involves students completing assignments independently at their own pace throughout the day. Teachers will continue to support students during asynchronous learning by providing feedback, responding to questions, and reviewing assignments when in-person learning resumes. All students will have up to five (5) days to complete assignments. Also take note of the following schedule:

  • Dutch Fork High School’s playoff game has been postponed until 8pm at Dutch Fork High School tomorrow, Friday, November 11, 2022. 
  • Irmo High School’s playoff football game will take place Saturday at 6pm at James Island Charter High School. 
  • The AAAA Competitive Cheerleading Qualifier at Irmo High School has been postponed until Monday, November 14, 2022, at 6:00pm.

Orangeburg County School District will have an e-learning day on Friday. Students and staff do not report to the school building, and all OCSD schools and buildings will be closed. Students and staff return on Monday, November 14, 2022. Also, all after-school activities scheduled for today, Thursday, November 10, 2022, are canceled. Scheduled athletic activities that are postponed will occur on Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Newberry County Schools announces that Friday, November 11, 2022, will be an eLearning Day for students and staff members due to the threat of severe weather from Hurricane Nicole. Strong wind gusts are forecast for Friday morning, making it unsafe to safely transport students on district buses. There will be no school-related activities, including athletics and Boys and Girls Club on Friday, November 11. 

Richland One all Richland One schools and administrative buildings will be closed Friday, November 11. Friday will be an e-learning day for Richland One students and a work-from-home day for Richland One employees. All afterschool activities scheduled for today (Thursday, November 10) have been canceled.

Richland Two: will switch to an e-learning/remote work day on Friday, November 11, 2022. Teachers will make assignments available to students (grades Pre-K and K - Choice Boards; Grades 1 through 12 - Google Classroom). Specific instructions, including teacher virtual office hours, will be communicated to students and parents from their students’ teachers and schools. All assignments must be completed and turned in by Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in order for the student to be marked present for Friday, November 11, 2022.

Saluda County Schools  E-learning Day Tomorrow Friday,  November 11, 2022. The Veterans Day program will be rescheduled to a later date.  This due to the possibility of hazardous weather conditions. 

South Carolina State University  Anticipating high-speed winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Nichole’s trajectory through the state, the South Carolina State University campus will close on Friday. 

Sumter County Schools had plans to be off on Friday for Veterans' day. 

All classes have been Friday canceled. Only essential personnel should report to campus, but all other staff are directed to work remotely. The university will return to a normal schedule on Monday.
