COLUMBIA, S.C. — Drier air will continue to filter into the state throughout today. High pressure will settle over the area. Sunny skies are expected Tuesday. A front will approach the Midlands on Wednesday. The clouds will increase, and there may be a small chance for rain. Thursday and Friday will be mainly sunny and seasonably warm.
Saturday was sunny and hot. The Columbia airport hit 90 degrees for the second time this year. Sunday afternoon was chilly and wet. Temperatures Sunday afternoon were stuck in the middle to upper 50s, but officially, the high temperature was 70 degrees, very early Sunday morning. The Columbia airport received 0.43” of rain.
The clouds will decrease throughout the day. By this afternoon, it should be mostly sunny across the Midlands. High temperatures will be in the middle 60s today. Our average high temperature for today is closer to the upper 70s.
Tuesday morning will be unseasonably cool. Under clear conditions, low temperatures are forecast to drop into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will return to the mid-70s with lots of sunshine.
A cold front will approach the state on Wednesday. Our in-house forecast model shows a small chance of a shower or two, but the opportunity for rain is small at this point.
Cool, high pressure will build in behind the front on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will be a little below normal, but things will moderate into the weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the lower 80s under partly cloudy skies.
