COLUMBIA, S.C. — Time to turn up the heat! We are looking at the warmest stretch of weather we have seen so far this year across the Midlands.

Before we get into the details on the heat, we do have some rain chances in the forecast coming up including on Sunday afternoon where scattered storms look likely.

Temperatures will be mild overnight with lows near 60 and mostly clear conditions. As we go into Sunday we will be warming up quickly with temperatures near 80 already by lunchtime. Around 1 PM we will need to keep an eye to the sky because storms look to begin firing up in the western Midlands. Storm chances look to ramp up by early evening with many locations seeing storms around 4-5 PM. Rain chances look to linger into the overnight as we cannot rule out a stray storm going into Monday morning.

Looking towards next week, temperatures look to be on the hot side. Thanks to high pressure keeping our winds out of the south, we continue to stay in a warm and moist airmass. That means the setup will be very summer-like with highs approaching 90 almost every afternoon. With the heat we can't rule out pop-up thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening each day.

There does look to be some relief from the heat in the forecast but we will have to wait for a while for it to arrive. Models are showing a cold front finally breaking the pattern towards next weekend with cooler but, warm weather expected in the forecast.
