COLUMBIA, S.C. — Today will be cooler than yesterday, as cold, high pressure dominates our weather. Things will start to moderate Wednesday and Thursday, before a storm system approaches South Carolina on Friday. Rain is likely Friday, and the chance for rain may linger into at least part of the weekend.
The skies will be sunny today. High temperatures today will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. It will be a little breezy at times, with winds out of the west at 10 to 15 mph. The winds tonight will keep temperatures a little warmer. Lows will drop into the middle to upper 30s. The winds should also prevent any frost formation.
Wednesday will be warmer. High pressure will be south of the area, and with a southwesterly flow and sunshine, temperatures will rebound into the lower to middle 70s. Our average high temperature this time of the year is 69 degrees.
A weak, dry front will move through the area on Wednesday. Slightly cooler air will move into the Midlands on Thursday. High temperatures will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. The clouds will increase on Thursday ahead of our next weather system, which will bring us rain on Friday.
The global models have slowed the system a bit. As of now, the rain may linger into at least parts of the weekend. Showers will be possible on Saturday, especially early in the day. Even though we are forecasting rain on Friday and Saturday, we are not expecting storms.
Cooler, dry high pressure builds into the area Sunday and Monday. Temperatures will be a little below normal for the start of the week.
